Our Loving Mother Maria V. Contreras was embraced by Our Lord and Savior and taken home on July 29, 2017. She was born on August 22, 1930 in Cuarteles, New Mexico to Jose & Rita (Quintana) Maestas. She moved to Bakersfield at the age of 14. At the age of 20 she was married Albert Contreras, and together they had 13 beautiful children. Maria held a few jobs, the last job she held was at the KCSOS as a Teacher's Aide, but the most impactful was being Our Mother. She made almost all of our costumes, and clothing. She took the time to make us stuffed animals, and crafts. She knew her way around the kitchen and could cook up a storm. Homemade cakes, tortillas, potato salad and rabbit cooked every way you could think of. Mom knew when to whip out the chancla, but also kissed and held us near. We couldn't have asked for a better Mother. She will be greatly missed. She leaves behind 6 daughters Martha Ortega, Julia, Rita, Gloria (Contreras), Sylvia Black, Cecilia Contreras and 5 sons David, Richard, Robert, Louis, and Paul Contreras. 33 Grandchildren, 70 Great grandchildren, 4 Great-Great grandchildren. Awaiting her in heaven our daughters Beatrice and Yolanda Contreras. Services will be held as followed: Visitation and Rosary 8/13/17 5-9 p.m. Hillcrest Memorial Park and Mortuary 9101 Kern Canyon Rd... Funeral Mass 8/14/17 10 a.m. Our Lady of Guadalupe at 601 E California Ave. A reception will be held at American Legion Hall 2020 H Street, Bakersfield, CA 1-5 p.m. Thank you for all of your thought and prayers during this difficult time, and all of the time spent with our mother and the many hearts and hands that have helped along the way. Special thanks to Hillcrest and Jamie Len and staff for all of their kindness patience and professionalism in dealing with our loss.
