Julio John Martinez (Jay) passed away from natural causes at San Joaquin Memorial Hospital on Sunday November 20th 2016 at the age of 89.

He was born January 28th, 1927 in Bakersfield California to Jose and Ninfa Martinez. Julio lived most of his life in Bakersfield and joined the Army during WWII. He was injured and returned home and married Lillie Gamez. A few years later he reenlisted in the service this time joining the Navy.

Julio John Martinez (Jay) passed away from natural causes at San Joaquin Memorial Hospital on Sunday November 20th 2016 at the age of 89.

He was born January 28th, 1927 in Bakersfield California to Jose and Ninfa Martinez. Julio lived most of his life in Bakersfield and joined the Army during WWII. He was injured and returned home and married Lillie Gamez. A few years later he reenlisted in the service this time joining the Navy.

After his service in the Navy he and his wife helped run the Mexicali Restaurants. He then opened up his own restaurant in downtown Bakersfield called Don Juan's. In the 50's and 60's he belonged to a local hot rod club and enjoyed entering local drag races. His greatest passion was to bowl. He shot several perfect games and at one time was even on the Seniors Professional Bowling tour.

He was preceded in death by his son Ernie Martinez, and is survived by his daughter Irene Ramirez, his Sister Josie Anderson, grandchildren Lisa Mayhew, Michael Guerra, Paul Guerra, and Nicole Ramirez. He also leaves behind six great grandchildren which he always bought the coolest gifts for.

There will be a public viewing at Hillcrest Memorial Park on Monday November 28th, between 4PM and 8PM. A Graveside Service will be held on Tuesday, November 29th at 10:00am at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
