Faith Marie Roesener (Galyean), age 81, a Native American born in Humboldt County California, died in her home in Chico, California on July 30, 2017, surrounded by loved ones.

Faith was born on the Hoopa Indian Reservation, March 25, 1936 to the late Thelma Wilder Galyean and Auburn Ordway Galyean. She loved her time there with her 4 siblings and family growing up in a large military tent. She referred often to her father dubbing it the 'great adventure in a beautiful Eden.' Only as she got older and wiser, she joked, did she realize he was just "frugal".

Mom never stopped learning and would tell her children that life was one big schoolroom and to immerse yourself in the things you love. She was an accomplished cook, often experimenting with recipes in the kitchen. (If you happened to be one of the lucky few to stop by on a cooking day you'll know what that means.) She was also an avid fan of knitting and crochet and was a master at her craft. Lucky family members are owners of her prized Indian hats.

Mom was not only an uncommonly kind and loving person, she was one of the brightest people around with a delightful sense of humor and rapier quick wit. She was as sharp as she was modest and loved fiercely all she called family and friends. She brought to so many a sense of unconditional love, acceptance and belonging that there will be an incalculable void created by her passing.

Mom is survived by her husband of 52 years, Walter G. Roesener, age 89, and 6 of her 7 children. She was the proud Grandmother of 11 grandchildren, including the newest member of the family, Isaiah, 3 months; 22 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Faith is also survived by 3 siblings; John Galyean of Blue Lake, CA; Rosa Galyean of Happy Camp, CA; and Sylvia Littlefield of Weitchpec, CA.

Services will be held inside the Hillcrest Chapel on Tuesday, August 15th, at 10 am. Visit www.hillcrest.com to leave comments and remembrances of Faith.
