OBITUARY

Arnetta Williams Matlock entered this life on January 18, 1938 in Boley, Oklahoma. She was the fourth child born to the union of Tom Watson and Genola Williams. She was raised in a loving, Christian home where church and Sunday School attendance were the norm. In the summer of 1953, during a revival at Valley Grove Baptist Church, Arnetta accepted Christ as her personal savior.

Arnetta was educated In the Boley public school system. After graduation, she sought employment opportunities in Oklahoma City, OK. While working there, her uncle and aunt Persia and Lurlean Craig welcomed her to stay in their home. Arnetta fondly remembered her uncle allowing her to go on dates, but only if she took her little cousin, Persia Jr. along with her.

In 1958, Arnetta's aunts Pauline, Arlene, and Geneva decided Arnetta and her younger sister, Loretta, should enroll in college. Arnetta cherished her college experience at Philander Smith College in Little Rock, Arkansas. She enjoyed the sisterly bond that she and Loretta formed while they attended college together. Nett spoiled her little sister with kindness and served as her protector.

In 1959 Arnetta relocated to Bakersfield, California. It was there she met her knight in shining armor, Oliver Matlock, a firefighter and father of three. They wed in 1962, and to this union, a daughter, Traci, was born. Arnetta was a great wife and mother. Sumptuous meals were always prepared and transportation to cheerleading events, dance lessons, and other venues could be depended upon.

When her adoring dumpling, Traci, became older, Arnetta found employment in the bank industry. She worked as a Teller, for many years. Her customers loved her and preferred to wait in long lines at her window in order to partake of her pleasant, caring, conversations rather than go to the next available teller. She made each one feel special. Outside of work, Arnetta enjoyed listening to poetry and country & western music.

Those who preceded Arnetta in death are: her parents, Tom and Genola Williams; siblings Joe, Floyd, Arthell, Luvell, Wanda Joyce, Tom Jr., Calvin, (unnamed baby boy) and Carolyn Faye; stepson, Eric; stepdaughter, Brenda.

Those left to cherish Arnetta's precious memories are: her loving husband, Oliver; devoted daughter, Traci; caring son, Steven; faithful daughters-in-law, Illene and Pam; beloved siblings, Raymond and Loretta; wonderful sisters-in-law, Marion, Donnie, Barbara, and Gloria; treasured aunts, Pauline, Lurlean and Mable; darling grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and precious, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Special thanks to Gerrie and Barbara for visiting Arnetta weekly, and showering her with lots of cheer and treats from Starbucks. Also, thanks to Carla, Raymond, Lonneda, Donald, Renee, Arma and Bobby for the various acts of kindness they extended toward Arnetta.
